Tim Koster is an American author who was born and raised in Portland, Maine. After graduating from Deering High School, Tim attended Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, where he studied English with an emphasis on creative writing. In his junior year, Tim enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve as a public affairs specialist and deployed on two combat missions – his first was to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn (2011) and his second was to Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (2018). Tim currently lives in Connecticut with his wife and two sons.
Military Service
Tim joined the U.S. Army Reserve on August 7, 2007, as a Public Affairs Specialist. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in May 2008, followed by his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Tim serves with the 362nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment in Londonderry, New Hampshire and has deployed twice. His first deployment was in 2011 and served in Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. His second deployment was in 2018 as a member of the Special Operations Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve and split his time between Syria, Kuwait, and Turkey.
His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Ribbon, the Army Commendation Medal (2) with the “C” device, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
